Swine Flu, natural disasters, the economy, wars, and unemployment. Stop! I want to get off this turbulent ride called life. The never ending battle of our existence seems unbearable at times. And those of us who are seeking a higher power other than ourselves become perplexed and ask the question. "Where is God in all of this?"
There was another person in the Bible who asked the very same question we ask today. It was a man that God himself called a "man after his own heart" (Acts 13:22).
How could a person who God proclaimed a man after his own heart question God's presence in his life? Because David experienced various trials in his life like most of us undergo today.
During King David's rule over Israel He experienced battles against his kingdom, a dysfunctional family, adultery, murder, and rejection. And it was through the lonely moments of affliction when David began to question. God I love you. I serve you. Why are you allowing this to happen to me? Are you still listening and seeing the suffering that is taking place here on this earth? (Psalms 10:1-11).
This is why Psalms is my favorite book of the Bible. The Book of Psalms is the poetic display of the human condition. In life we experience peeks and valleys. When we encounter trials in our lives, and are unable to find glimmers of hope, we begin to question God.
Throughout Psalms David's poetic prayers to God openly express his love for God, his joy, disappointments, fears, and his deep emotional pain. But throughout his life's journey David knew that his protection and strength always came from his Heavenly King regardless of what was unfolding around him.
During these times of fear and uncertainty there are two passages in the book of Psalms that should become embedded in your spirit and soul. The following passages I am going to share with you are words of healing and encouragement to a troubled mind and soul. And when these passages are repeated they will give you hope, strength, and encouragement to persevere through your life's journey. The following scriptures apply to those who acknowledge God and call on His name.

The 23rd Psalms
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name' sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: For thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.
Psalms 91
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say [1] to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5 You will not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only look with your eyes
and see the recompense of the wicked.
9 Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place—
the Most High, who is my refuge [2]—
10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you,
no plague come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder;
the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.
14 “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;
I will protect him, because he knows my name.
15 When he calls to me, I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”
