To Seek Or To Be Sought?

To Seek or to be sought? Ahh...this is the question that plagues the minds of many women who are searching for a suitable mate.

In contemporary society women and men have definitely veered from their traditional roles from the past. For men, there was a time when a man's physical strength meant his very survival. He depended on his physical strength to work for his family, build shelter and provide food and other necessities for his family. And a woman recognized this quality in a man and found it to be a great asset to her lively hood and marriage. There was a time when women could not survive without being married because she did not have individual social rights or access to financial independence in order to support herself and her children.

Those days are long gone, and now a man's physical strength has little to do with his survival in this world, nor does it have an effect on women when it becomes her time to choose a mate.

And now women, well, lets just all proclaim that "Sisters are doing it for themselves." women now have more financial and social freedom, and power than they have ever had in history. Women no longer need a man for their survival, and are proudly proclaiming "I Don't Need A Man" and taking a more aggressive role in "choosing" who they think should be in their lives. So I pose the question once again, in this modern society what is our role now as a women? Should we seek? or wait to be sought?

I have several friends who absolutely check out on paper. They have it going on! They are beautiful, highly educated, and their bank accounts are quite plush. I have observed them and their dating trends. Some of them have recently married, some have chose to stay single because they are having the time of their lives, and the others are still waiting for Mr. Right. There is a common theme that I noticed with the ones who have recently been married. They all have said, "I didn't see it coming." "I wasn't even looking for anything like that right now" or "I didn't even have any makeup on, I wasn't even dressed the way I wanted to." And before I knew it my friends had fallen in love and I'm sitting at a wedding reception with tears of joy streaming down my face watching them take their first dance with their grooms.

The friends that are now married, also were women who had a strong identity and a purpose for their lives. They were busy working on their careers, as well as their individual passions. Some of them had different passions for charities and foundations, church ministries, children, some just simply focused on their simple hobbies and favorite past time. And before they knew it a man came out of no where and found them, when they were busy doing the things that made them feel the most happy and fulfilled.

My other friends who were seeking mates constructed their identity through the eyes of a man. They allowed the different men who came into their lives to define them. They also gave the man sole possession of their time. They neglected their divine purpose and gifts to spend their time trying to keep the man in their lives for fear of loneliness. They were unaware of their self worth and their unique beauty that all women have. Whether a woman is short, chubby , tall, or slender. When a woman has an authentic, unique personal style, and confidence. Watch out! She immediately becomes fabulous and no one can take away her unique allure, regardless of what society dictates.

As women it is ultimately your choice whether you choose to seek or to be sought. But realize that when it comes to a man's desires they really are not as complex as we want to believe. A man either wants you or he doesn't. There is no gray area when it comes to a man's pursuit of a woman. A man knows what he wants and he'll do anything to conquer his desire. Ladies when a man loves a woman you will know it. There is nothing that will stop him from gaining your affection.

To Seek Or To Be Sought? Throughout time and experiences only you will truly know the answer to this question.

Proverbs 30:18-19
There are three things that amaze me—
no, four things that I don’t understand:
how an eagle glides through the sky,
how a snake slithers on a rock,
how a ship navigates the ocean,
how a man loves a woman. (NLT)
