Keeping It Real

Keeping It Real

Finding your authentic self can often take a lifetime; but when you can finally grasp who you truly are, it enhances your internal beauty and you begin to shine.
Some may feel frustrated by the ideals or paradigm they feel must be followed. Years ago I felt like I was trapped and suffocating. I began to feel and act like a "cookie cutter Christian". Everyone around me was taught to project an ideal image, think the same, and pursue the same dreams and careers.

I found myself withdrawing because I did not checkout on the proverbial "perfect Christian list." I was falling short and I desperately needed to spend some quality time away. Far away from all of the crowds and lofty expectations, to simply ask God "what do You want and need from me?" Do you really want me to loose what makes me different to be accepted by You?"

I was amazed and relieved to discover through my life's journey that all my Heavenly Father required of me was my heart, and for me to dedicate my gifts, and talents to Him. Contrary to popular belief He does not hold us on a string from the heavens and control us like puppets. He gives us each a choice, different personalities, with unique gifts and talents that He wants us to fulfill.

Every since the day I discovered that God does not seek to strip me of my identity, and truly sees our hearts, and deals with all of us specifically according to our needs; my spiritual journey has been liberating!

The Choice To Love

The Choice To Love

Love is not a feeling; overtime it becomes a choice. I am aware that this statement destroys the whole romantic notions of what love is "supposed" to be, and to all of the die hard romantics, I do apologize for bursting your whimsical and enchanting bubble, but allow me to share the truth about authentic love.

Here is a secret that most married couples are not brave enough to share, because they feel the need to present a facade of perfection. But the truth people.....Are you ready???

You will not always feel like loving. There I said it.....But in spite of your feelings, you will continue to love. How? Through the beautiful example of love that are Heavenly Father has shared with us.

Check out this amazing scripture in 1 Corinthians 13:

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Wow........this is the real deal! This is what love is all about.

So even throughout our daily, mundane moments of life there will be moments of romance. And those moments are so very sweet and precious; but do not allow those fleeting cherished moments to become the sole reason for loving a person.

Seek a spiritual connection with your spouse. A kinship that goes beyond the flesh and earthly desires, and your bond will become infallible.

Song of Solomon 8:7 Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away. If one were to give all the wealth of his house for love, it would be utterly scorned. (NIV)
